CRYSTAL CARE

There are many ways to safely care for and cleanse your crystals.

Here are a few tips.

CRYSTAL CARE TIPS

Even though crystals feel hard, it is still possible to accidentally chip, scratch or even break them.

Take care when putting crystals into your bag as they can get scratched by items such as keys or coins. Consider placing into a small pouch first to protect them.

When wearing crystal jewellery, take extra care not to saturate them when washing hands.

Remove crystal jewellery before bathing and swimming.

As a general rule, crystals with a hardness of 5 or less on the Mohs Scale, should not be  submerged in water.

The Mohs mineral hardness scale is based on the ability of a mineral being able to scratch the surface of another mineral visibly. It is based on a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being Talc and 10 being Diamond.

Using this scale, you can determine which crystals to keep in a separate space, and which you can keep together without worrying that their surface could be scratched.

Each crystal's Moh hardness number and their properties can be found in the Crystal A - Z section.

More information on the Mohs Scale can be found here-en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohs_scale

CRYSTAL CLEANSING

How It Works

Crystal cleansing is thought to remove any old or negative energy from the stone, like a reboot.

Below are several cleansing methods you may wish to try.

Water

Not all crystals can be cleansed with water, it may cause damage. Please check Mohs rating and use caution.

Never cleanse crystals using salt water. Crystals with trace metals exposed to salt water, could be ruined as salt water is corrosive, could produce irreversible damage to the crystal.

  • Use cool water. Natural spring water is best or filtered water if unavailable.

  • Hold the crystal over the sink with your fingers pointed down towards the drain

  • Let the water run over your crystal for a minute or so envisioning all negative energy draining away

  • Let air dry

Fire
  • Surround your crystal with tea lights

  • Leave until candles have burned out

  • Do not leave lit candles unattended

Smoke

  • Light smudging sticks or palo santo sticks and once lit well, blow out the flame

  • hold the crystal over the smoke for about a minute

  • Extinguish the stick completely after use

Light

Some crystals can lose lustre or can fade in the sun., others can release toxic fumes when hot, or even break down in sunlight. For this reason, we do not recommend cleansing or storing crystals in direct sunlight.

  • A full moon provides the strongest energy for cleansing and charging crystals

  • A waxing moon can also be effective, as it signifies growth, abundance, and amplifying energy

  • If possible, put your crystal outdoors in direct exposure to the moonlight

  • If it is not possible to put your crystal outside, use a window ledge facing the moon

  • Retrieve your crystal the following morning

Other Crystals

You can use other cleansed crystals to cleanse or re-cleanse a crystal.

  • Surround your crystal with the cleansed crystals, quartz is very good for this

  • Alternatively, place the crystal on a quartz or amethyst cluster, or selenite plate

  • Leave for 24 - 48 hours
